Conservation ~ Regional
Contributing to Conservation
Science and Practice
We are proud of our many contributions to plant conservation locally,
regionally, nationally and even globally. We have worked hard to
create and maintain a regionally significant seed bank and provide
associated garden-related services ranging from germinating seeds
in the laboratory to reintroducing plants to their native
habitats. Our work in the region does not end there. We also work with many other organizations on a variety of projects
from surveying and monitoring rare plant populations to long term
demographic and other population studies.

WORK
with populations in the field
We have taken the old maxim - Think Globally, Act Locally - to
heart. Our hands-on work in this region has provided the experience
and perspective that has allowed us to contribute to rare plant
conservation nationally and even globally. We are a charter and
very active Participating Institution in the Center for Plant Conservation.
Our experience at home and in partnership with many organizations
around the USA doing similar sorts of work has led us to think hard
and write about the place of garden-based efforts in plant conservation
efforts more generally. Along with the Center for Plant Conservation,
the Chicago Botanic Garden, the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew in
England, Berry co-sponsored an international conference on ex
situ plant conservation. Based on all of this work, we have
been asked to consult on projects out of our region.
